The youth section of the Taraba State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has declared three days of prayer and fasting for the state.
The move was prompted by the state’s ongoing drought. The lack of rainfall has had a significant impact on farm crops, with some beginning to wither.
Worried by the situation, the leadership of the youth CAN, in a press statement made accessible to journalists on Sunday, invited all Christian adolescents across the state to join in the spiritual exercise, which will begin Monday.
In a statement issued by its state chairman, Ephesian Jesse, the group stated that the exercise was required to correct the wrongs that the people must have committed.
What they’re saying
“Let us gather outside and pray for rain. It is no longer news that our crops are drying out owing to a lack of rainfall. Let us appeal to God for divine intervention. “Let us pray for churches that are currently experiencing difficulties; let us pray for divine intervention, knowing that nothing is impossible with God.
“As they carry out their responsibilities to the glory of the Lord, “let us also pray for governor Agbu Kefas and his family, that the Lord will guide over their steps, protect them, and grant them good health,” the statement said.
Bottom Line
While the focus is on prayer, this action should ideally complement other practical measures to address the drought.
Prayer and fasting can provide hope and a sense of purpose, but they should be accompanied by tangible efforts, such as advocating for better water management practices, supporting drought-resistant agriculture, and encouraging policies that address climate change.
