Real Madrid are close to waving goodbye to Carlo Ancelotti’s second chapter in the club with Sky Sports reporting that the veteran Italian manager will leave the Spanish giants after the Copa del Rey final on April 26. While Ancelotti’s present contract extends to 2026, the club’s recent exit in the quarter-finals of the Champions League could, in the end, prove to be a significant catalyst for him leaving sooner.
The Spaniard has enjoyed a mixed spell with the Catalan club. Although Real Madrid have claimed the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup this term, they have already experienced disappointment in the Spanish Super Cup and Europe’s top-tier event. There are seven LaLiga games left, and Los Blancos are four points adrift of leaders Barcelona, but they are still alive in the running for silverware in the Copa del Rey final.
Ancelotti’s impending departure might rekindle hopes for the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), which has long fancied him as its national team coach. The Italian had previously been adamant about seeing out his contract with Madrid, especially from early next year when the Club World Cup was held, thereby causing Brazil to have to look elsewhere.
Ancelotti’s first tenure (2013–2015) and his second (2021–present) has seen him win 13 trophies with Real Madrid, including three Champions League titles and two LaLiga.
