The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has released a statement signed by Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Chidi Agubuchie, Chancellor/Secretary; Very Rev. Fr. Geoffrey Aguigwo, Vicar General; and Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Ernest Anezichukwu Obodo about the vile comments Reverend father Mbaka made about Peter Obi.
This statement strongly condemns Reverend father Mbaka for making fault-finding political comments against Labour Party and their Presidential Candidate; Peter Obi.
Mbaka during his preaching at his Adoration ground had attacked the good reputation of Mr. Peter Obi, calling him a stingy man and joker. This is against the Canon Law which prevents anyone from spoiling the good name of a person and also restrains priests from engaging in partisan politics.
The diocese has described the utterances of Mbaka against Peter Obi as unbecoming and divisive and separated itself from Reverend father Mbaka. They had also warned Mbaka in the statement to stay away from making more political prophecies.
They ended the statement by asking the people to pray for peace in the country and also exercise their civic responsibilities by getting their PVC and coming out to vote in the next election.
