Chelsea have confirmed Cole Palmer, Trevoh Chalobah and new signing Mathis Amougou are registered for the knockout stages of the UEFA Conference League as they pursue continued dominance in the competition.
The Blues omitted Palmer from their squad for the group stages to help manage his workload after enjoying a breakout season that earned him a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad. His stead was well-filled by Enzo Maresca, who guided Chelsea into the knockout stage with a perfect record: 26 goals scored and just five conceded.
As the knockout rounds approached, Chelsea overhauled their team, bringing in new signings to replace departed players such as Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga and Joao Felix . Palmer, who Maresca said was “something extra,” joins Chalobah, returned early from a loan at Crystal Palace, and Amougou, a £12.5m moves on deadline day from Saint-Etienne.
Palmer has been managed carefully to stay clear of injuries, while Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia are ruled out. Fofana is still unable to shake off fitness problems since arriving for £70m from Leicester City, while Lavia has been suffering from recurring hamstring problems that have seen him miss a dozen or more games this term.
With Enzo Fernandez also struggling through injuries, Amougou can put his name forward as he and other midfielders look to lift Chelsea to glory in the Conference League.
