Mathys Tel (currently at Bayern Munich) is among the forwards Chelsea have taken an interest in, while Christopher Nkunku is said to be on Bayern’s radar at upon many sources.
Tel, one of the brightest young forwards in Europe, was highly impressive last season with limited minutes, scoring double-digit goals across all competitions with just ten starts. But his lack of regular playing time has prompted speculation about a potential move.
At the same time, Nkunku has a struggle ahead of him for consistent minutes at Chelsea, as he has been linked with a departure. The Frenchman, who was once a top scorer in the Bundesliga while with RB Leipzig, has mostly made his appearances in cup competitions this campaign. As reported by Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic, Bayern Munich have also been tracking his situation, with Barcelona also touted as a possible destination.
Despite such reports, Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has said Nkunku remains in his plans, while Bayern’s director of sport Christoph Freund has reaffirmed their commitment to Tel’s development. There’s no doubt that both clubs are resistant to allowing transfers to happen, though conversations could change if those involved want the switches to proceed.
Even if these moves are not cast as a swap in the direct sense, they do have the potential to develop — both Chelsea and Bayern looking to reshape their attacking options on their own terms.
