If we can recall, there were reports that Christiano Ronaldo, a Manchester United player was linked with Saudi Arabia club this summer, considering the player’s eagerness to depart from the club, due to their inability to qualify for Champions League this season.
His agent, Jeorge Mendes held meetings with several clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Athletico Madrid, but none gave a positive response as they considered him not suitable for their club’s philosophy. Al Hilal made an offer to the five times Balon D’or winner, they offered to pay Manchester United €25m for the player, and also dropped a mouth-watering offer of € 2m per week to the player
However things didn’t work out as Ronaldo remained in old Trafford, many reports said that Ronaldo rejected the offer. Al Hilal President has debunked such reports, as he revealed the actual reason the deal didn’t pull through.
According to him, it was not about the money, but the problem was the ban placed on them by the Arbitration center.
He told the Thamanya YouTube channel: “Yes, we negotiated with Ronaldo. The problem was not in the money or the principle.
“Al-Hilal can bring in the stars of the world, but it was in the decision of the Sports Arbitration Center that prevented us from registering the players.
“We did not stop negotiating with the players despite the decision to ban, but we were delaying entering the final stage of the negotiations until the ban was lifted.”
Al Hilal was banned from signing players during the summer transfer window, due to a breach of agreement caused by one of its players.
