It was indeed a night to remember on Saturday, May 20 as several African stars trooped into Nigeria for the 9th year of African Magic Viewers Choice Awards, AMVCA.
While, a lot of the actors and actresses had been dressed to the nines, with the intent to slay and win the best dressed at the event no doubt, a lot of the controversy isn’t being centered on the looks as per usual this year.
Instead, fans have been criticizing the AMVCA, with some alleging that the show has become nothing more than a popularity contest where the most popular person in a category wins the award.
The most notable clamor came after Osas Ighodaro won the award for Best Actress in Drama (Movie/Tv series) in a category where Bimbo Ademoye, Ini Edo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, and Ini Dima-Okojie were in. This particular award had not gone down well with both fans and actresses alike as Nse Ikpe-Etim had gone on Twitter to tweet a laughing face emoji as a reaction to Ighodaro winning the award.
Meanwhile, fans have castigated the show, saying that Kunle Remi who was supposed to attend the awards had not been nominated despite his great performance in the Anikulapo movie.
