Christopher Adetuberu, a corps member, was convicted of cybercrime, which the National Youth Service Corps has called shameful. Therefore, the organization issued a warning that it would not defend any corp member whose behavior broke the law.
These were said in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by the NYSC Director (Press and Public Relations), Eddy Megwa. He believes that Adetuberu’s behavior is shameful and at odds with the principles and reputation of the NYSC.
Megwa added that while the scheme unequivocally affirms the court’s ruling, which undoubtedly will serve as a deterrent to other Nigerians of like minds, it reiterates that the convict’s actions are not typical of other corps members and consequently do not reflect the disposition of an average corps member.
As a result, the NYSC management exhorts all corps members to always demonstrate the values that the Scheme upholds, including discipline, humility, and patriotism. “Let it be known that the scheme shall never shield any member of the service corps that falls short of the law.”
