The Dangote refinery petrol price has dropped again for the second time in April 2025. This time, the Lagos-based Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals reduced its ex-depot petrol price to ₦835 per litre. The previous price was ₦867 per litre. This new adjustment was confirmed on Wednesday.

An official of the Dangote refinery told Channels Television that a formal statement would be released soon. Also, independent checks on petroleumprice.ng confirmed the new petrol price. The drop is expected to reduce the pump price at some filling stations. These include MRS Oil & Gas, Ardova Plc, and Heyden, which all have deals with the Dangote Refinery. Their new pump prices are likely to go below ₦900 per litre.

Ex-Depot Petrol Price Cut After Dangote-Finance Minister Meeting

This change in the Dangote refinery petrol price came after a meeting between Dangote Refinery and Finance Minister Wale Edun. The government confirmed that the naira-for-crude policy is still working. This policy supports local refining in Nigeria and is not a temporary fix.

The decision overrides a previous suspension by the former NNPC head, Mele Kyari. The current government wants to keep this policy alive to promote local fuel production.

For years, Nigeria depended on imported petrol because its government-owned refineries were not working. The situation improved recently when the Dangote refinery started refining products locally.

Petrol Price in Nigeria Still Affects Citizens Despite Dangote’s Cut

Although the Dangote refinery petrol price has been reduced, many Nigerians still struggle. Since President Bola Tinubu removed the petrol subsidy in May 2023, prices have risen sharply. What used to cost around ₦200 per litre now goes for nearly ₦1000 in many places. The ₦835 ex-depot price is still far from a true relief for most citizens.

Electricity in Nigeria remains unreliable. Most homes and businesses still rely on petrol-powered generators. That’s why even a small change in petrol price affects daily life. Nigerians are watching closely to see if this drop will lead to cheaper fuel at filling stations.

Nigerians Hopeful as Dangote Refinery Petrol Price Drops Again

The latest Dangote refinery petrol price reduction to ₦835 per litre brings a glimmer of hope. It shows that local refining may slowly ease the burden on citizens. Still, it’s not yet enough. The people want further drops, especially in a country where fuel powers everything. As more meetings happen and the naira-for-crude policy continues, Nigerians are hoping for even better news in the coming weeks.
