Actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao has debunked claims that she played a role in the arrest of cross-dresser Bobrisky shortly after her movie premiere in 2024.
Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV on YouTube, Ajao cleared the air, stating that the arrest had nothing to do with her and everything to do with alleged financial offences.
She explained that awarding Bobrisky the “Best Dressed Female” title at the event was simply a marketing move to promote her film, not a personal endorsement or jab at anyone. The decision, however, stirred controversy among her colleagues in the industry.
“I gave the best-dressed female award to Bobrisky to promote my movie, but I didn’t know that my colleagues would react negatively to it. I was very sad to see that my colleagues in the movie industry were fighting over the decision, and I later had to call them and explain what my intention was,” she said.
Addressing the arrest, Ajao made it clear that she had no hand in it, emphasising that Bobrisky knew why he was arrested and that her relationship with him remained intact.
“I don’t have any issue with Bobrisky; he knew why he was arrested, and no matter how I try to explain to people on social media, they won’t believe me,” she added. “I have a very good relationship with Bobrisky, and he knows that I have always been a good friend to him. I wasn’t behind Bobrisky’s arrest; he was arrested because of money, and I always visit him. Many of his friends neglected him when he was arrested, but I stood by him.”
Bobrisky was arrested in 2024 by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged abuse of the Naira and currency mutilation.
