Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that, despite collaborating with Nicki Minaj on two tracks, they have never met in person.
Speaking on the Bootleg Kev podcast, shared on X on Thursday, the Nigerian singer shared how their partnership began, explaining that their entire communication has been virtual.
He recalled noticing that Nicki was following him on Instagram, which led him to send her a direct message. To his surprise, she responded the next morning, and their first collaboration was set in motion.
“I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested. This was around 2019 or 2020. I sent her the track, and within two days, she sent back her verse,” he said.
According to Davido, they had initially planned to shoot a music video in Los Angeles, but it didn’t happen as Nicki was pregnant at the time.
Despite this, their professional relationship remained strong. The singer further revealed that Nicki reached out again in 2023, requesting his contribution to a track on her Pink Friday 2 album.
“She hit me up again with a song last year. She’s always been supportive and amazing,” he added.
Davido and Nicki Minaj first worked together on Holy Ground in 2020, and their latest collaboration appeared on her recently released anniversary album.
