Afrobeats sensation Davido has met with Nigerian highlife veteran Bright Chimezie in Lagos, following a recent exchange where the younger artist acknowledged Chimezie’s influence on his music.
In videos posted to Instagram on Monday, Davido was seen embracing the music icon and engaging in cheerful conversation. Bright Chimezie, famed for his unique “Zigima” sound, appeared delighted during the interaction.
Their in-person meeting comes shortly after a video call in which Davido expressed admiration for Chimezie’s artistry. The singer revealed that his 2018 track Because of English had directly inspired Davido’s new single With You, which features Omah Lay.
“I got inspiration from your song, God bless you,” Davido said during the call, a clip of which was shared by nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest.
In that conversation, Davido also gave Chimezie an exclusive preview of the With You music video and extended an invitation to meet in person, saying, “It would be nice to meet you face-to-face.”
Chimezie responded graciously, describing Davido’s song as “a beautiful piece of work” and appreciating the nod to his musical contributions.
