Grammy-nominated singer Davido has shared that his father, Dr. Deji Adeleke, earned his first million at the age of 23 and is now at the helm of a prominent energy company.
In a recent appearance on the American podcast Bagfuel Brigade, Davido highlighted his father’s significant impact in the energy sector, revealing that his company generates roughly 18% of West Africa’s electricity, which is then supplied to the government for distribution.
“My dad made his first million at 23. Right now, we supply about 18% of the electricity in West Africa,” Davido stated. “We generate the power and sell it to the government, who then handles the distribution.”
Earlier in October 2024, Dr. Adeleke had disclosed that his power plant provides about 15% of Nigeria’s electricity, aided by partnerships with Chinese engineering firms.
He also mentioned that he is nearing completion of a new 1,250MW power plant, which will become Nigeria’s largest. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2025.
“In Nigeria, I’m in the electricity business. I own a power plant that generates about 15% of Nigeria’s electricity needs,” Adeleke explained. “I’m building a new 1,250MW power plant that should be the biggest in the country, and it’s almost finished. We’re looking to begin operations by January, God willing.”
