Several reports circulated that Frenkie de jong has refused to accept a pay cut despite knowing the financial situation of Barcelona at the moment.
Reports have it that when Frenkie moved to Barca in 2019 from Ajax, he was offered€400,000, and was also promised a lucrative extension by Barcelona’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, which means that he will be paid €16.8m this season and €21m next season.
Speaking on this, De jong has branded such reports as lies and falsehoods.
He further revealed, that he had been taking a pay cut, in his first three years at the club, and that the figures circulating all over the media are false
He said on TV NOS: “There have been many lies and falsehoods spread about my salary.
“In each of the first 3 years I played here, I cut my salary. Eventually, the money comes back, and it comes on top of my normal salary, so it looks bigger.
“I think a lot of people don’t understand this, but the figures the media are spreading are false.”
It was reported that Erik Ten Hag, Manchester United manager was interested in bringing De Jong, into the club. Considering the fact that De Jong has always been sidelined in Barcelona since the season started, he might just consider a move to United in the January transfer window.
