The corpses of five government workers who were abducted in Cameroon’s restive South-West region, back in 2021 have been unearthed in a remote village, after a former separatist fighter– who surrendered a little while back- to police officials disclosed that they had been killed and buried.
The former fighter had led security men to the burial site where the officials’ bones were unearthed.
For many hours, security men raked through a forest in Ndian, and discovered the grave where the officials were laid to rest.
The means of identifying the bodies individually would be difficult as their bodies had already decomposed.
The deceased local delegates who led the government services in Ndian division were murdered in June 2021, after being abducted by separatists while on a government assignment.
Since then little was known about their whereabouts until quite recently.
In totality, six emissaries had been abducted but there are allegations that say one corpse had been taken to a neighbouring city in 2021.
The remains of the other five thst have been found have already been taken to town for mourning.
The two Anglophone regions in Cameroon have been embroiled in conflict since 2017, when English-speaking separatist fighters took up weapons to demand for a breakaway nation.
The two sides have both been accused of gross rights violations, including abduction, torture, and killing.
