Despite efforts to prevent it and generous donations from well-meaning Nigerians, it appears that diabetes has taken a severe toll on actor John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu. In a recent statement from his family, it has been revealed that one of his legs had to be amputated to save his life.
The news of Mr. Ibu’s health issues first emerged in October, with a call for financial assistance to support his treatment. According to the statement shared on his Instagram page, the actor has undergone seven surgeries, with one involving the amputation of his leg to increase his chances of survival.
The statement reads: “Good afternoon, Nigerians. We want to express our profound gratitude to everyone who has extended their support to our father. Words cannot fully convey our appreciation, and we can only thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the assistance you’ve provided.
“As of today at noon, our father has undergone seven successful surgeries. Unfortunately, one of his legs had to be amputated to ensure his survival and aid in his recovery.
“This has been a challenging development for all of us, but we have had to accept it as our father’s new reality to preserve his life.
“We continue to seek support from kind-hearted Nigerians as our father is still in a delicate condition and requires all the help he can get.
“Thank you, everyone. The Okafor family is deeply grateful, and we truly appreciate your support. In due time, our father will personally acknowledge everyone who has stood by him during this period once he is stable.”
Rumors have circulated that Mr. Ibu had diabetes and may not have followed proper health procedures. This serves as a reminder that celebrities should prioritize their health. Regardless of fame and wealth, it is crucial for individuals to have a healthcare plan, regular medical check-ups, dietary guidance, and exercise routines. Sickness does not discriminate based on one’s status.
