Orlando Jorge Mera, who was the Dominican Republic’s Environment Minister has been shot dead by a gunman on Monday. The minister had lost his life on Monday after a gunman ran into the weekly meeting of the ministry and attacked him with a gun in his office.
The shooter, Miguel Cruz, was recognized to be a very close friend of the minister. It was reported that he had been apprehended and he was currently in the custody of the police.
The shooter was able to gain access to the area even though it was very secure because of his relationship with the minister. The area was barricaded by a heavily armed elite police unit and Miguel was locked in with other hostages. His reason for committing this crime has not yet been known and investigations are currently ongoing to know his motive for the murder.
