One of the most influential music producers in Nigeria, Don Jazzy has caused a stir in many quarters with a rather large donation of N100 million to the popular activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, VDM. The philanthropic donation to keep VDM’s NGO running has generated a storm of mixed reactions that have brought to light, glaring hypocrisies of the general public.
VDM, who had once attacked Don Jazzy for promoting controversial crossdresser Bobrisky, was in a peculiar position when he received such a large sum of money from him. Though he had first thought the money was an error or scam, VDM later confirmed that the donation was real after he heard from Don Jazzy. The activist gushed with prayers and praise for the man whom he once dragged in the mud.
And that was not all. Comedian Deeone also had his say, rebuking VDM for the hypocrisy, he mentioned how even while Don Jazzy was seriously condemned for reaching out to help Bobrisky, he is now hailed as a hero for coming to support VDM. Deeone jokingly mentioned that the same set of people who abused and vilified Don Jazzy for his benevolence are now hailing him.
Even Bobrisky had something to say, calling them out for their double standards, reminding them that they dragged Don Jazzy for assisting him, yet cheer for this same man when he helps their favorite. The sharp comment by Bobrisky showed the hypocrisy of such people, that they shift their judgment based on who the beneficiary of the goodwill act is.
Now, a case of the generous donation by Don Jazzy to show his philanthropic spirit, has unmasked the capricious nature of public opinion with all its contradictions.
