The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to reduce the limit of importing drugs in the country from 60% to 40%.
According to FG, this development is coming in an effort to encourage the local production of drugs.
Salma Anas-Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, had made this announcement during a workshop organised to reinforce the World Health Organisation Nigeria country cooperation strategy in FCT, Abuja.
Anas-Ibrahim had also revealed that this was all part of President Bola Tinubu’s key agenda to bridge the gap in country’s health sector.
The President’s key areas include: to increase and improve access:
• to equal health care services,
• to national health insurance for at the very least, 40% of Nigeria’s population
• to ensure all citizens including the vulnerable group are beneficiaries.
This move seems yo be geared towards the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians at large. Only time will tell if it will prove to be so.
