The Nigeria Women’s Basketball team, D’Tigress Head coach, Otis Hughley has been announced as the man in charge of the Alabama A&M men’s basketball team.
The appointment of Otis was made during a press conference in Alabama this week, and eye brows has been raised concerning Otis’ involvement in the announcement despite the fact that he’s still got a contract with the Nigeria women’s Basketball team.
Earlier this year, Otis gave a stern warning to the Chiefs at the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) about his unpaid bonuses and the promises that wasn’t met. The American also said he might leave his role as the head coach if they don’t revisit his contract.
However, the report was denied by one of the federation’s top chief, they claimed that the board and Otis are in good terms and the federation is planning to put a stop to all the dead end in leadership that’s within the federation.
Otis Hughley Jr, started his coaching career in 1993 with Wallace-selma, he has then gone to work for the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors before taking on the D’Tigress job in 2017.
As at the time of this report, Otis’ statement was quoted in the press statement that was published by the media. It says;
“I’m overwhelmed with this new chapter in my career, and I can’t but thank Dr. Daniel Wims and the committee for the trust they have placed in me and I promise not to let them down. I can’t wait to get started”.
The 57-year-old has not come out to talk about his recent appointment and the situation at the Nigeria Basketball federation(NBBF) is uncertain as they have not made any public comment about the appointment and what it means for the basketball team.
