The Ebonyi State government has approved the renaming of the Olympic stadium- still under construction- after the late military dictator, Sani Abacha.

Abacha had been Nigeria’s military head of state from 1993 to and had been notable for his strict government which included banning political activities of any kind and brutally suppressing dissent and assassinating some of his critics.

The state government would also be renaming the Centenary City Ring Road after a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim. According to the government, the renaming of the aforementioned constructions was to honor both men for serving the state credibly.

Additionally, in the spirit of Christmas, the state government had approved the sum of N111,250,000 for Christmas celebrations for indigenes of the state.

The state’s special adviser on media and strategy, Chooks Oko, announced on Saturday, 17 December.
