Edo PDP Halts Campaign Over Heavy Gunshots

The People Democratic Party, Which Flagged off their campaign on the 17th for the 2023 Presidential election in Edo central senatorial district had to abruptly stop their campaign after some gunshots were fired by unknown persons, most likely rival parties.

The incident led to disarray, as everyone scampered to safety, and other PDP leaders were immediately evacuated from the venue.

According to Anslem Izegua, former Commissioner for land and survey revealed that today which was supposed to mark the end of the campaign in Esan Central was interrupted by gunshots from unknown Gunmen

He further revealed that got the information that some people died from the incident, so they had to suspend the campaign.

He, however, confirmed that the police have taken up the investigation into the issue, a d as soon as reliable information is passed to them the campaign will continue.

He said, “We had to suspend our campaign today. Today was supposed to be the final stanza of the campaign in Esan Central. We were in ward 7 and having a very peaceful really when we heard gunshots in the vicinity of the rally to avoid injury and possible damage and loss of lives of people, we decided to evacuate immediately.

“We later got to hear that they were possible loss of lives. It was only wise and sensitive to suspend our campaign until when we are sure of what happened.

“We are reliably informed that the police are handling the situation and as soon as they give us better information then we can continue with our campaign,” he added.

The whole incident surrounding, this February 25th election is scary, as there has been violence in different parts of the country, this will scare people as no one wants to die while voting.
