Polls in the Edo State local government elections had not begun as originally scheduled by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, on Saturday, September 2.
The electoral exercise which was slated to begin at 8:30 am, had gotten delayed at several polling units. Some of the units delayed had included Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, and Egor local government areas, –LGAs.
The intending voters who trooped out en masse, very early in their numbers at the various polling units had been spotted by Channels News reporters, waiting patiently for voting to begin in earnest.
At Unit 7 Ward 4, in Egor Local Government Area, voting began at approximately 10:30 a.m.
However, a party agent from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had revealed that the delayed could be because non-sensitive electoral materials were still being categorised and dispatched from Ward 2 in Oredo LGA Collation Centre to the polling units in the riverine areas as at about 12:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
