The Edo state government has paid June salaries to its workers and pensions to pensioners ahead of the Sallah break. This aligns with the governor’s promise made on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Edo State Secretariat Complex in Benin City.

The state Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, announced the payment in a statement on Friday. He stated, “The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has paid June salaries to workers and pensions to pensioners. This is in line with the government’s long-standing practice of meeting its salary obligations before the 26th of every month and to enable our Muslim brothers and sisters to have a good Sallah celebration.”

Nehikhare reassured that the government will continue to prioritize the welfare of workers and pensioners, highlighting that the comprehensive reforms in the public and civil service have made Edo the most attractive public employer in Nigeria. He added, “Civil and public servants in Edo State have continued to receive prompt payment of their salaries, even after the state’s minimum wage was raised from N40,000 to N70,000, the highest in the country. We will continue to prioritize workers’ welfare, ensuring they are well-empowered and supported to deliver optimal and quality services to Edo people.”

Bottom Line

The prompt payment of salaries and pensions by the Edo state government sets a commendable precedent for other states. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workers and underscores the importance of timely compensation in fostering a motivated and efficient workforce. This proactive approach not only boosts employee morale but also enhances service delivery to the state.
