Edo State is in the headlines again, but this time, it’s not about the esteemed Oba. Buckle up, my people, because we’re diving into a political drama starring our favorite frenemies, Governor Godwin Obaseki and Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

Deputy Doomed? The Impeachment Saga

Seems Shaibu’s days as Deputy Governor might be numbered. The Edo State House of Assembly is doing the tango with impeachment proceedings, accusing him of allegedly lying under oath (perjury) and spilling state secrets. Shaibu, however, seems to be playing hard to get – he’s dodging the impeachment notice like a pro! The Assembly, determined not to be waltzed over, is resorting to a newspaper ad to serve the notice. Talk about an unconventional way to dump someone!

A Bromance Gone Bust

Remember when Obaseki and Shaibu were the political dream team? Well, that dream seems to have turned into a nightmare. Apparently, Shaibu has the audacity to dream of becoming the next governor. The horror! Didn’t he get the memo that Obaseki has a handpicked heir apparent? Now, Shaibu’s facing impeachment charges for some rather shady reasons – perjury and leaking state secrets, they say. But let’s be honest, this whole thing smells like a political power struggle with a side of betrayal.

“He has not been happy that I’m not supporting his candidate. It is my right to contest in an election and I’m exercising that right. And he has done a lot of negative things. It doesn’t really matter, I see it as politics.

“I’ve made up my mind to always respect the office of the governor, and I’ll continue to respect the office of the governor till the end, whether as deputy or any other thing.

“So the relationship is not cordial, I can tell you that. It’s not from my own end, it’s from his own end because I have made attempts to bridge the gap, but he doesn’t allow it”, Shaibu said.

Adams Oshiomhole’s Revenge Served Cold?

Remember Oshiomhole, the guy they both ganged up on during the last election? Well, some persons are saying he must be laughing his head off right now, watching his former foes turn on each other. Karma’s a dish best served cold, as they say!

Wait, There’s More!

Now, the story takes a dramatic turn. We were about to bring you some wise words from the Oba of Benin, but…well, let’s just say that’ll have to wait for another time.

Stay Tuned, Folks!

This Edo State drama is far from over. Will Shaibu get impeached? Will Obaseki get his preferred candidate in? Will Oshiomhole do a victory dance? Only time will tell! So, stay tuned, folks, because this political tango is bound to get even more interesting.

On a lighter note, to all our Edo brothers and sisters, wherever you are, we leave you with a warm greeting – Oba gha to kpẹrẹ! Ise!
