Nnamdi Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor has raised alarm over his (Kanu’s) health status.
According to Ejimakor, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is currently ill, and suffering from shortness of breath, low blood pressure and general malaise.
Ejimakor then went on to lament how the Department of State Services, (DSS) refused Kanu access to doctors despite his sickness.
These revelations were made by Kanu’s legal counsel after a routine meeting between him and his legal team at the DSS facility in Abuja.
Nnamdi Kanu has been detained at the DSS facility since his rearrest and repatriation to Nigeria from Kenya.
Prior to Ejimakor’s outcry, Kanu had earlier spoken up over his ill-health and after considerable back and forth between his legal team and the DSS, he was allowed to seek medical attention.
What They’re Saying
In Ejimakor’s words:
“Yesterday, during our visitation with MAZI NNAMDI KANU, we found him ill, with shortness of breath, low BP and general malaise.
“For this reason, he requested to see his Doctor and we submitted a letter in this regard. Today, the Doctor arrived the DSS but was denied access to #MNK.”he concluded.
Why it Matters
Lab tests have since confirmed that the IPOB leader suffers from acute heart disease and hypertension and given this, further breakdown on his health will significant impact on the legal proceedings of this case.
If Kanu’s health worsens, he may be unable to attend court hearings or trials, leading to delays or complications in the legal process.
Presently, Kanu is facing charges of attempted treason, terrorism and perpetuating falsehoods.
