Elon Musk pushes for better US-Europe trade without tariffs, calling for a free trade zone and easier movement between the continents. Speaking via video call at a political congress in Florence, he urged the United States and Europe to remove all trade barriers. This statement came just days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs that would hit several European countries, including Italy.
“At the end of the day, I hope it’s agreed that both Europe and the United States should move ideally, in my view, to a zero tariff situation, effectively creating a free trade zone between Europe and North America,” Musk said.
He made this comment while addressing Italy’s right-wing League Party, which is closely linked to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Musk has supported her and her party in the past.
Freedom of Movement and Better Trade Without Tariffs
Besides better US-Europe trade without tariffs, Musk also talked about easing restrictions on travel and work between the two regions. He believes the workforce should move freely between North America and Europe without immigration problems.
“If people wish to work in Europe or wish to work in North America, they should be allowed to do so in my view,” he said. Musk also noted that he has advised President Trump on these matters.
The tech billionaire has openly supported right-wing European leaders, especially those who prioritize tax cuts, strict immigration rules, and economic reform. Recently, he thanked League Party leader Matteo Salvini for backing his Starlink satellite project.
Trump’s Tariffs Could Hurt Italy, But Musk Prefers Trade Without Barriers
Trump’s latest tariff announcement includes a 20% levy on goods from several EU nations, including Italy. Italy has a strong trade surplus with the U.S., and these tariffs could hurt Italian exports. Italy’s Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti has warned against retaliation and said the government prefers “de-escalation.”
Musk seems to agree, emphasizing that better US-Europe trade without tariffs is a smarter solution than trade wars. He continues to push for policies that bring economic growth, free trade, and smoother partnerships between the U.S. and Europe.
