On the November 4th episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Elon Musk ignited controversy when he took aim at Jennifer Lopez over her past relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs. Musk, who of late has been a loud supporter of Donald Trump, seemed to raise questions about Lopez’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris as he called out her silence on Combs’ alleged criminal actions. Lopez and Diddy, who dated from 1999 to 2001, have not been publicly linked in the charges against him, but Musk didn’t mince words: “How many people did she warn against Diddy? Oh, zero, okay.”
Musk’s barbed comments didn’t end there. He suggested it was an industrywide problem, that “people in the music entertainment industry had to know” about the purported crimes and yet they continued to advance Diddy’s career. Combs, who was indicted in September on federal counts of racketeering and sex trafficking, has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody awaiting trial.
The podcast discussion, ultimately, unleashed a wave of responses on social media, with Musk taking to X, to weigh in on how many people in the industry may have also known about the situation with Diddy. In an unexpected turn, the musician Aubrey O’Day, who is a former artist under the Diddy run record label, weighed in to take Musk’s side and told him he should “ask his friends.” O’Day was never pleased with Combs. She went on record multiple times about her own issues with him, suggesting now that some kind of industry-wide silence might be rampant.
The forthcoming trial and a slew of other allegations are bound to keep discussions fierce, and with high-profile figures like Musk weighing in, scrutiny is at an all-time high for those who may have turned a blind eye.
