Gianni Infantino, blame for Manchester City and PSG FFP deals - Rui Pinto

England FA withdraws endorsement for Infantino’s FIFA presidency re-election

The FA is expected to officially withdraw its endorsement for Gianni Infantino to stand for re-election as FIFA president, further raising concerns over the Swiss official after his controversial FIFA Forward Enterprises (FFE) project collapsed earlier this week.

The move follows the FA’s support of UEFA in declaring they no longer have confidence in Infantino as FIFA chief after strongly opposing plans to sell a 21% stake in FIFA’s commercial and events division to an investment group fronted by Joshua Kushner, which has led Infantino to abandon the plan after widespread disapproval.

A statement released by the FA also called for radical reform at the world football governing body.

“It is time for a full and thorough review of the leadership and governance of FIFA, in order to ensure that world football is administered ethically, transparently and for the benefit of all 211 member associations,” read the statement.

The FA of Wales has already rescinded support for Infantino, with the Football Federation of Serbia also releasing a statement confirming they are “no longer supporting him (Infantino)” following recent events, which have questioned the reputation of the organisation.

The Swiss Football Association said it is reconsidering its position following the events, but will continue its discussions before the 2027 FIFA presidency.

UEFA has also threatened legal action over the abortive plans, with an increasing feeling that many CONCACAF members are also losing confidence in Infantino.

Infantino said he already had the backing of over 200 FIFA member associations before the scandal erupted, but these latest developments have cast serious doubts on his bid for another four-year term, and CONCACAF boss Victor Montagliani is said to be considering challenging the 56-year-old after nominations close in November 2027.
