English clubs now have the opportunity to sign a specific number of players who do not fulfil the work permit points requirements.
The Football Association announced that the interior ministry has approved new criteria for international player visas, known as the Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) Criteria.
This change will be effective as the transfer window opens on June 14th, allowing Premier League and Championship teams to secure up to four such players, while League One and League Two teams will be permitted to sign two.
While the existing points-based system will still apply to the majority of overseas players coming to England, the introduction of this new approach will provide additional access to international talent that currently falls outside the GBE criteria.
The FA has emphasized its commitment to collaborate with the Premier League and the English Football League (EFL) in order to enhance opportunities for talented young English players in the sport.
