Despite the recent inauguration of a new president, our nation is still plagued by the persistent issue of insecurity. It leaves us questioning when this cycle will ever come to an end. Each passing day brings new reports highlighting the distressing state of security.
According to reports, three individuals, including a policeman and a woman, were abducted on Tuesday along the Naka/Makurdi road in Benue State. The incident occurred around 4 pm in Ahume, as the victims were returning from a burial. They fell prey to a group of kidnappers who forcibly seized them.
Family members of the victims received communication from the abductors, who demanded a ransom of N1.7 million. Confirming the incident to journalists on Wednesday, Andrew Ayande, the Chairman of Gwer West local government, emphasized the area’s reputation for criminal activities.
Ayande expressed, “This unfortunate incident occurred yesterday (Tuesday). As you may be aware, we recently lost a prominent individual in that vicinity, and the deceased’s remains were being transported home on that fateful day. These miscreants, who have been causing havoc in the area, struck as usual and attacked the individuals traveling in one of the vehicles.”
“At around 4:00 pm, a policeman and two others were kidnapped in the Ahume vicinity. The vehicle in which the victims were traveling has been taken to the Naka police station,” added Ayande.
With the advent of a new administration, there are high expectations for resolving the issue of insecurity and restoring peace in our nation.
