Chelsea secured a crucial 2-0 Premier League victory against Leicester City, extending their unbeaten run in head-to-head meetings to seven. Enzo Fernández was instrumental, contributing to both goals in a match that marked Enzo Maresca’s return to the King Power Stadium.
Leicester set up deep, allowing the Blues to dominate possession. The visitors took full advantage in the 15th minute as Fernández’s threaded pass presented Nicolas Jackson with the opportunity to shrug off Wout Faes and slot home coolly. It got worse for the Foxes as Harry Winks was forced off through injury, with their ire increasing courtesy of bookings for Wilfred Ndidi, Boubakary Soumaré, and Oliver Skipp.
Chelsea monopolised all the possession, though, and the hosts were blessed by Noni Madueke’s offside goal and a few close shaves elsewhere. Leicester briefly resisted, mainly through Kasey McAteer and Ndidi, but prior to halftime, Fernández doubled Chelsea’s advantage in the 72nd minute by heading in after Mads Hermansen had parried Jackson’s effort.
A late penalty to Leicester and converted by Jordan Ayew, they were able to pull one back, but it was too late to change anything. The win for Chelsea ends a run of successive draws, while Leicester have lost three of their last four league outings.
