According to a statement from the Turkish presidency’s communications directorate, President Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey had a phone conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden, during which they discussed Sweden’s NATO bid. Erdogan conveyed to Biden that Stockholm has taken some positive steps for Ankara to endorse its bid, specifically mentioning an anti-terrorism law.
However, he expressed his concerns that these efforts were undermined by ongoing demonstrations held by supporters of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Sweden.
The readout from the Turkish presidency also mentioned that the two leaders addressed the topic of F-16 fighter jet deliveries and Ukraine’s position in NATO during their call.
