Continuous heavy rainfall in Serbia and Bosnia has resulted in widespread flooding, leading authorities to declare a state of emergency in multiple areas. The downpour is expected to persist for another day, exacerbating the situation.
The Interior Ministry in Serbia reported that 1,300 rescuers and 22 boats were deployed to evacuate numerous individuals from various locations.
Near the city of Kraljevo in the southwest, a bridge was washed away by a river. In central Serbia, the bursting of the Lepenica river’s banks necessitated the evacuation of 12 people from their homes in Kragujevac, according to Mayor Nikola Dasic. Additionally, 22 individuals were rescued from a village near the town of Jagodina. The flooding has also resulted in the overflow of smaller rivers, leading to road and power line disruptions.
In eastern Bosnia, rivers have overflowed, and the entire region of Tuzla in the northeast has declared a state of emergency. Many towns and villages have seen residents forced to evacuate their homes. A landslide has also blocked a road near the town of Srebrenica, and there are concerns about potential flooding in the capital city, Sarajevo.
