Emmanuel Ijewere, an ex-President of the Institute of Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, has purportedly passed on at age 77.
His death was confirmed to news reporters on Friday by Dare Muyiwa, the Senior Manager of the Corporate Communications Directorate of ICAN.
Ijewere, had been born in Plateau State on October 30, 1946, and he had served as the 32nd president of ICAN from 1996 to 1997. He is well known for playing a key role in governing the accounting body.
He began his accounting career in 1965 at Coopers & Lybrand; and later on, he established Ijewere & Co., a chartered accountancy firm in Nigeria, in 1979.
The accounting guru had held different positions as the president of renowned organizations like the Institute of Directors, –IOD, the Nigerian Red Cross, and a National Economic Forum, –NEF member.
He had also served as the chairman of Best Foods Group, Emson, Nigeria Agribusiness Group, Drum Resources Nigeria Ltd, Apel Capital & Trust Ltd, Countrywide Direct Mortgage Company, Kerildbert Holdings, Computer Warehouse Group –CWG, Gemini Pharmaceuticals, among others companies.
Ijewere was also a member of the Agricultural Transformation Implementation Council –ATIC, under the leadership of the former President Goodluck Jonathan and had also served as a resource person for the transition committee of former President Muhammadu Buhari regarding agriculture.
