The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has indefinitely postponed its February 2025 meetings. This announcement was made on Thursday by FAAC secretary, Ali Mohammed, in a letter to committee members. The letter, referencing a previous notice (F.12090/T/68 dated February 14, 2025), stated that a new date for the meeting will be communicated later, and previous communications will be reviewed accordingly. Mohammed conveyed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy’s regrets for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.

Presidential Meeting and Senate Inquiry

Separately, on Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. While details of the meeting remain undisclosed due to restricted media access, it followed the Senate’s summoning of intelligence chiefs to investigate allegations of USAID funding terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram.

FAAC Postpones Meeting Indefinitely

This investigation stems from an urgent national security order raised by Senator Mohammed Ndume, following accusations made by U.S. Congressman Perry Scott. The Senate has indicated that if USAID is found guilty of sponsoring terrorism, its operations in Nigeria will be halted.

Conclusion

The postponement of the FAAC meeting, coupled with the high-level discussions regarding allegations of USAID involvement in terrorism, highlights a period of significant political and economic uncertainty in Nigeria. The lack of transparency surrounding both the presidential meeting and the reasons for the FAAC postponement raises concerns.

Further updates on both matters are awaited with considerable interest as they will likely have significant implications for the nation’s financial management and international relations.
