Fabio Carvalho has moved to Brentford in an initial £22.5 million deal, rising to £27.5 million with an extra £5 million in add-ons. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder had been monitored by Southampton and Leicester but signed a five-year contract with Brentford, including the option of an extra year.
The Reds will also get a 17.5% sell-on clause as part of the deal. Brentford boss Thomas Frank hailed the signing, claiming Carvalho’s versatility and attacking prowess is a huge plus for his side. “Fabio is a player with a lot of qualities,” Frank said. “He can play in all of the front three or four positions. Offensively, he has great abilities on the ball.”
Carvalho transferred to Liverpool in 2022 for £5 million after making a reputation at Fulham as one of their most exciting prospects with 12 goals in 44 appearances during their promotion campaign. Fulham secured a 20% sell-on clause, which will be payable from the proceeds of the profit from Carvalho’s move to Brentford.
At Liverpool, Carvalho played 21 times and scored three goals. He did much the same on loan at Hull last season, scoring nine goals in 20 Championship games in the second half of the campaign.
