Rapper Falz has stressed the need of self-care in sustaining happiness and general well-being. In a recent interview on Osas Ighodaro’s Spa with Osas show, Falz discussed his approach to self-care, emphasising the significance of engaging in things that offer joy and tranquilly. “I think self-care comes in a lot of different dimensions, so it’s caring for your mind, caring for your body, and caring for your spirit,” he told me.

Falz characterised self-care as caring for one’s mind, body, and spirit, and revealed his personal approach: “For me, I try to immerse myself in activities that make me happy and put me at ease. You want to stay in a joyful environment; you don’t want to feel miserable or as if something is missing.

The rapper also emphasised the importance of physical health for Nigerians and acknowledged the difficulties associated with ageing.

“The past few years have taken their toll; it’s just life. By the time you reach 30, you begin to notice things about your body. It could be your stomach today, then your ear or knees, so pay attention to your body,” he explained.

He emphasised the significance of relaxation and sleep, saying, “If you don’t rest, you will collapse.” Rest and sleep are really vital. Nature cannot be cheated, and if you are not properly rested, you will be unable to perform. “Rest and sleep are equally important,” he stated.

Why this matters?

Falz’s focus on engaging in activities that bring joy and tranquility is vital. Personal fulfillment and a sense of peace are foundational to mental health. This can involve hobbies, spending time with loved ones, or simply taking time to relax and unwind.

Emphasizing the necessity of rest and sleep is particularly important in a culture that often glorifies overworking. Adequate rest is fundamental for cognitive function, emotional regulation, and physical health. Falz’s reminder that “nature cannot be cheated” speaks to the irreplaceable role of rest in our lives.
