Two of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have died in a gyroplane crash in the southeastern region on Monday, according to a report by the semi-official Fars news agency which cited the force’s public relations department as announcing.
The accident had occurred near Sirkan, a city in the province of Sistan-Baluchistan surrounding Afghanistan and Pakistan, two places which has long been the site of constant clashes between Iranian security forces and Sunni militants as well as drug traffickers.
The Fars news agency had said:
“Second Brigadier General Hamid Mazandarani, the commander of the Nineva Brigade of Golestan province, and his pilot, were martyred in this accident.”
But, it did not give reasons on why the commander of the brigade, who was based in the northern province, was visiting the southeast at the time.
Just last month, ten Iranian border guards were killed in the province clashes with alleged Sunni Muslim militants.
