The father of rising football star for Spain, Lamine Yamal, Mounir Nasraoui, was stabbed repeatedly in a car park in Mataró, just north of Barcelona, on Wednesday night. This happened after the former argument Nasraoui had while walking his dog, which reportedly increased into violence later in the day.
Catalan police have arrested at least three people in relation to the stabbing. Nasraoui was rushed to a hospital in Barcelona, where he was first reported to be in serious condition but is now stable and out of danger, under observation.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving members of the local community on edge. The Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that it is assumed that the previous clash may have been what caused the violent incident.
This tragedy has come within only weeks after 17-year-old Lamine Yamal made history at Euro 2024, becoming the Young Player of the Tournament and playing a key role in Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the final.
One local described the sentiment of the community: “Lamine has made us so proud, and now this happens to his family.” Nasraoui is likely to stay in hospital for several more days as the investigation continues.
