Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been linked with Old Trafford exits, but Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim reaffirms intention to hold on to club’s best players
United may have to sell players in order to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, with Chelsea said to be interested in Mainoo and Garnacho being linked with a return to Atletico Madrid. But Amorim stresses that United remain determined to keep their best players.
“The idea always is to keep the best players and to build for the future,” Amorim said before United’s F.A. Cup match against Arsenal. “I am very much in love with my players, in particular the academy players. It’s a tough moment, but I’m pleased with the improvement of Kobbie.”
Arsenal target Amad and goalkeeper Tom – also on loan at Sunderland – are on separate deals but can be bought if things go well, plus Mainoo, contracted until 2027, has developed a promising midfield partnership with Manuel Ugarte and Garnacho made 11 appearance under Amorim.
Marcus Rashford has also been linked with leaving too with AC Milan supposedly keen. But Amorim would not be drawn into speculation, saying: “Let’s talk about the game.”
United, who under Amorim have won only four of their 12 matches, hope to build on a promising 2-2 draw at Liverpool at Anfield.
