The appointment of Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti State, political aides have been terminated as of 31st of July. According to Foluso Daramola, the Secretary to the State Government, the action, which was following the state’s transition law, was also taken to assure the payment of the political office holders’ rights and last perks as the administration was coming to an end. A memo from the Permanent Secretary, TG Adejumo, on behalf of the SSG stated that the impacted political appointees were all Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Technical Assistants, and Executive Assistants.
A Transition Committee was also established, among other things, to develop plans for a seamless changeover from the outgoing to the next administration. The payment of political office holders’ rights, including their terminal benefits, is one of the Committee’s responsibilities under the Ekiti State Transition Law. According to the statement, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has approved that all SSAs, SAs, technical assistants, and executive assistants’ services will terminate on July 31, 2022, to allow the state government to clear any outstanding allowances due to the affected officials as the government winds down.
