A communique signed in conjunction by the state chairman of the FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Abdullahi Mohammed Shafas; Secretary, Margaret F. Jethro and Publicity Secretary, Ibikun Adekeye, had remarked that the suspension of the primary school teachers’ strike was coming after an emergency meeting of the State Wing Executive Committee (SWEC) of the union was held at the Teachers House in Gwagwalada, FCT late Friday evening.

The union also revealed that the decision to postpone the ongoing strike came after the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike intervened and agreed to pay 40 percent of the total sum of the 25 months’ arrears of the national minimum wage.

Wike also committed the six area council chairmen to pay the rest of the 60 percent amount of the N7 billion within three months from January 2024.
