Nollywood actor Femi Ogedengbe recently recounted how he and his colleagues, Prince Eke and Hanks Anuku, narrowly escaped a clash with cultists in Enugu years ago. Speaking on Teju Babyface’s King of Talks podcast, he described the incident involving Prince Eke, who angered a cultist by talking to the man’s girlfriend.
He mentioned the prevalence of cultism in Nollywood at the time. While filming a movie in Enugu, Prince Eke struck up a conversation with a woman who was dating a cultist. This led to the cultists confronting Prince, making him kneel and humiliating him, which infuriated him. Despite their attackers not being students, they were unaware of Prince’s own dangerous connections.
Mr Femi explained that Prince then called for backup from Port Harcourt, leading to a violent altercation where the actors were beaten, but he and Hanks Anuku managed to hold their ground.
He said, “Prince called people and buses from Port Harcourt, and if you see what happened to actors that day in the hotel in Enugu, They beat us, but like I no dey fear, and Hank Anuku. They tried punching Hank here and there, but he stood his ground, and when we noticed other people like us were like, ‘Let’s die here.”
“However, Hank was the first person who defended himself, and every other actor took off, and that was the day Prince first got his recognition before he was added to movies,” he concluded.
