The Federal Government of Nigeria has begun moves to prevent the planned strike action by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, by commencing high-level discussions with the doctors themselves.
Recall that NARD had on Saturday, April 29 given the Federal Government two weeks to fulfill its demands or face industrial discord.
The resident doctors are demanding an immediate increase in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, of up to 200 percent of the current gross salaries of doctors in Nigeria, in addition to the new allowances being granted to the doctors.
Meanwhile, in reacting to the ultimatum, the Federal Government announced that it was working towards resolving the demands of the doctors before the deadline given expired.
