The Federal Government has taken delivery of 70 hybrid Jet Mover buses from Jet Motor Company, a Nigerian automobile manufacturer, to enhance the country’s transportation sector. The buses, designed to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) and premium motor spirit, aim to provide affordable and comfortable transportation for Nigerians.
During the handing over held at Jet Motor company’s factory in Ajah, Lagos State, top officials from the Ministry of Finance as well as representatives from Presidential Initiatives for Compressed Natural Gas were present.
Dimas Hamidu, Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Finance praised the company for producing high quality vehicles that complement president Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment towards reducing hardships emanated by withdrawal of fuel subsidy.
These hybrid vehicles will address transportation needs and cushion the impact of rising costs on the economy. The federal government has promised several firms to supply CNG vehicles while the jet engine company fulfilled all contract terms and specifications.
The buses are fitted with two CNG tanks having 220 litres gas capacity altogether that can travel 300 kilometers and an additional tank containing 80 litres gasoline. Their lifespan is 15 years within which period their engines easily switch from gas mode to petrol mode.
Derek Ewelukwa, Managing director of jet motor, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to efficient and comfortable transportation.
This recent development indicates rigor by the government in promoting sustainability in transportation systems whilst strengthening domestic production capabilities.
