President Bola Tinubu has made it clear that the All Progressives Congress will welcome Nyesom Wike if he chooses to officially join the party. The President made this statement during the inauguration of several road projects in the Katampe District of Abuja on Wednesday.
Speaking directly during the event, Tinubu said, “We have somebody in Nyesom Wike. He’s not a member of our party, not yet. But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will join him in singing ‘as e dey pain them, e dey sweet us’.”
This is not the first time Wike has appeared in APC-dominated events, but it is the most direct invitation yet. Tinubu’s declaration that APC will welcome Wike has drawn public attention, especially as Wike continues to serve as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under an APC-led government while still being a PDP member.
The President used the occasion to praise the FCT administration for completing the project, highlighting Wike’s efforts despite not officially being a member of the ruling party.
APC Will Welcome Wike Despite Party Line
Tinubu went further to say that infrastructure remains a key part of his Renewed Hope Agenda. According to him, “Infrastructure is not a luxury. It is a necessity.” He emphasized that proper infrastructure is the foundation for economic growth and industrial development.
He added, “This project represents more than a stretch of asphalt. It affirms our commitment to urban transformation, under our Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Despite being in a different party, Wike has remained visible in Tinubu’s administration, a move that has led to speculation of an eventual defection. With Tinubu clearly stating that APC will welcome Wike, the message appears loud enough for PDP loyalists who have accused Wike of working against his party.
Controversy Over Wike’s Loyalty Grows
Wike has been at the centre of political conversations since his fallout with key PDP members. His close relationship with APC leaders, including the President, continues to raise eyebrows. Some observers view Tinubu’s statement as a strategic political move ahead of 2027.
Wike, who served as a PDP governor in Rivers State, now controls significant federal projects and wields influence in Abuja, even though he has not formally defected. Tinubu’s public declaration that APC will welcome Wike is already seen as more than a casual invitation—it is a calculated political signal.
APC Will Welcome Wike Still Rings Loud
In a time where party loyalty is often blurred by political survival, Tinubu’s words, APC will welcome Wike, may turn out to be a defining moment in Nigeria’s current political landscape. With growing speculation and visible alignment, the President has now confirmed what many have long suspected: if Wike walks in, APC’s door is wide open.
