The 2023 National Population and Housing Census have been moved to May of this year.
The exercise, which was originally scheduled for March 29, is being hindered by the March 18 gubernatorial elections.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Communication and Culture, made the announcement on Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.
According to Mohammed, the decision to reschedule was prompted by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision last week to delay the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections to March 18.
He also revealed that the council sanctioned a sum of N2.8 billion for the National Population Commission (NPC) to purchase software for the census.
