The Federal Government of Nigeria has called for the indefinite suspension of the N-Power program.
Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, had made the announcement when he featured on a TVC news program on Saturday, October 7.
Edu had said that the decision was conceived by some irregularities within the scheme.
She had however, said that the government has initiated an investigation into the use of the funds since the program began.
The Minister had claimed that some of the beneficiaries were not found in their places of assignments, yet they wanted monthly stipends.
According to her, a few of the beneficiaries were supposed to have exited the program since 2022 but they were still on the payroll.
She had reiterated that one had to go back and look into N-Power to understand what the problems were.
“To this effect, we will basically suspend the program for now until proper investigation is done.”
“We basically want to know how many persons are on the program right now, how many persons are being owed and the amount if any.”
“We will completely restructure the N-Power programme and expand it.” Edu finished.
