The National Population Commission, NPC, has stated that a new date for the National Census was still yet to be fixed but it would be done soon by the Federal Government.
According to the NPC, its focus was to ensure that all the resources expended were protected ahead of the 2023 Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.
Mr Darlington Okereke, the NPC’s Federal Commissioner in Ebonyi State had announced this news update during a one-day Breakfast Meeting for Media Executives on Friday, June 2 in Abakaliki.
According to Okereke, the protection was necessary to prevent beginning preparations afresh when a new date is set.
The Commissioner also highlighted that it had carried out all the preliminary activities towards the census exercise, including the Enumeration Area Demarcation, EAD, and behaviour of pre-tests and trial census amongst others.
“The most important task before the commission is to support and fortify the relevance of these activities to the successful conduct of the 2023 census.
This will ensure that the nation does not have to start all over again for the preparations, thus, saving cost.” Okereke remarked.
